Cayo Levantado Resort Launches New Eco-Tour

Cayo Levantado Resort, a luxury all-inclusive private island resort in the Samaná Bay of the Dominican Republic, has announced new programming for its prime winter whale-watching season from January through March 2025, when thousands of humpback whales migrate to the surrounding waters for their annual breeding season.

The resort is debuting a new eco-experience this winter, led by on-staff curators and the Eco-Bahia Foundation who guide both guests and staff in exploring and protecting the island’s ecosystem. During the new 45-minute Eco-Walk, the expert team will share insights into the island’s geological history, current environmental challenges and conservation solutions to preserve its natural wonders. The journey includes a visit to Cayo Farola, the resort’s observatory that often offers front-row views of humpback whales who migrate to the area to mate and give birth in the warm waters of this region from January through March each year. Guests are provided with binoculars to more easily view the acrobatic displays of these magnificent mammals. This the perfect way to connect with nature and learn about Cayo Levantado’s efforts to protect its natural surroundings.

Besides whale-watching, guests can unwind in the resort’s tropical garden-filled wellness center, Yubarta. Aptly named “humpback whale” in the Taino language, Yubarta offers an extensive menu of experiences tailored for each traveler seeking to emphasize particular areas of focus. The exclusive holistic center comprises an expansive open-air meditation space, five cenotes, three jacuzzis and wellness programming including aerial yoga, Tibetan singing bowls, therapeutic and rejuvenating treatments and more.

The resort offers 218 guestrooms and villas, and five restaurants and bars utilizing local ingredients with many grown right on-property, including the only slow food movement restaurant in the Dominican Republic.
